How to Open an Account in Philstocks: Beginner’s Guide

Opening an account for stock trading in an accredited broker like Philstocks is no longer difficult nowadays, and it has been made available to everyone as long as you are at least 18 years old.

The process is easy as if you’re just signing up for the first time in a social media account. Just follow the steps that I will mention below, and you’re good to go.

You might have had heard Philstocks Financial already that made you interested in opening an account with them. Philstocks is one of the top online stock trading brokers used by many investors in the country and worldwide who invest in the Philippine Stock Market as of today, 2020.

Investing in stocks is now made available and affordable to everyone because of technology. Thanks to technological innovation because it gives everyone the chance to enter the stock market in the simplest way it can provide so far.

For those who have an existing account with the other brokers, the process is almost the same. For those who are new to investing in stocks, you might have a lot of questions regarding your plan to start investing in stocks; don’t worry you made the right decision. Yes, there’s a risk, and that’s inevitable; nonetheless, at the end of the day, it is you who will manage the risk in exchange for returns. I understand that there are factors that hold you back to start because starting is always the hardest. But always remember, many become successful because they take and manage risk to your advantage.

Did I convince you to continue? If so, let’s get started! First things first, please be advised that the SEC or Securities and Exchange Commission mandated that account holders be at the legal age of 18 to open a trading account. If you meet this essential requirement, you’re good to go, you may now proceed to our first step.

Step 1: Open your browser and go to https://www.philstocks.ph/

Click Open an Account. You’ll be directed on this page, as shown below.

Step 2: Choose the type of trading account

Choose what kind of account you’re going to open. You will choose, of course, Individual Account since we are new to investing. On the other hand, Joint Account is account ownership of up to three people wherein each owner is eligible to trade. The joint bank account of owners is a mandatory requirement for opening an account.

Fill-out the necessary fields such as your email address where they will be sending your SOA or the Statement of Account for all of your transactions. The accomplished form, username, and your password will be sent to this email upon successful registration.

Also, your registered email will be used in recovering your passwords and/or Trading Pin if you forget them. Of course, you won’t because it’s a hassle. Trading pins is a four-digit pin that is required to be changed every 90 days.

Type your desired username, which must be at least 8 characters. Follow the guidelines in making your password. Retype your password and click continue.

Step 3: Provide your personal information

Note: In compliance with PSE regulations, all investors that have no Tax Identification Number (TIN), broker company will deduct 25% withholding tax to CASH DIVIDENDS instead of 10%

When you’re done, click continue.

Step 4: Accomplish your Investment Profile Sheet

This is to give the broker an initial assessment of your purpose in your opening an account and your capacity as an investor. This is, again, in compliance with SEC rulings.

Further, at the bottom part of the page, Philstocks will be offering you if you want to avail there ATM Card powered by Unionbank. You can tick it if you feel it will be useful to you in your trading activity. If not, you can now proceed by ticking the agreement and click continue.

Step 5: Verify your account

Once your account has been verified either thru email or phone number registered by entering the OTP, you can now check your email for the Customer Account Information Form (CAIF) and signature cards.

Philstocks gives their client 7-day free trial access to their online trading platform. This is for you to familiarize the platform before you start buying your first stocks. This trial account allows you to experience real-time trading. You can navigate the trade tools and other widgets available on the platform. Start practicing online trading by opening a trial account.

Step 6: Download and print the CAIF and signature cards

Fill-out the CAIF and sign the signature cards.

Guidelines: Accomplishing Account Opening Documents

1. Customer Account Information Form (CAIF) must be printed on a separate clean paper per page.

2. Make sure that all required fields are fully accomplished. Double-check the validity of the information that you have provided.

3. Use a black pen only.

4. Affix handwritten signature on the 1st, 2nd, and last page as guided by the arrows on your CAIF. Avoid writing or signing on portions intended for Philstocks.

5. For clients with shorthand and longhand signatures, please make sure to place both signature on CAIF:

1st page – Place both signatures separated by a slash (/)

2nd page – Sign each signature twice, shorthand signature on the number ones (1), and your longhand signature on the number twos (2) or vice versa.

6. In addition to the printed CAIF and signature cards, you will be asked to send a copy of your ID The IDs presented must exactly match your name and signature listed in the CAIF.

ID Requirements: 

2 Primary IDs OR 1 Primary-ID and 2 Secondary IDs

Primary IDs: Passport, SSS/GSIS/UMID,TIN ID, PRC ID (or Professional ID), Passport, SSS/GSIS/UMID,TIN ID, PRC ID (or Professional ID) ,Driver’s license

For Foreigners with permanent residency in the Philippines: Foreign Passport, or Foreign Driver’s License, together with Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR)

Secondary IDs: Postal ID, Senior citizen card, NBI Clearance, Credit card, ATM card, Company ID (current employer), and, for Students: Student ID (current school year), NSO-certified Birth Certificate

For Foreigners with permanent residency in the Philippines: Foreign Driver’s License, together with Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR)

For any person with permanent residency outside of the Philippines: Passport or Driver’s License, together with Certificate of Residency in the country/state he lives in.

Secondary IDs: Senior citizen card, Credit card, ATM card (front and back copy), Company ID (current employer), Student ID (current school year)

7. For the JOINT account – Primary and Secondary holders must be able to provide their document requirements.

8. Erasures, corrections, or any alterations would require your countersign.

Be informed that incomplete or with discrepancies, documents will be returned to you for proper fixation/s. Account activation is within 3-5 business days upon receipt of all complete and verified requirements.

Take note of these guidelines to avoid delay and inconvenience also on your part.

Step 7: Submission of documents

Bring all the requirements (CAIF, signature cards, and valid IDs) to their Head Office or Branch nearest you

  1. Head Office: G/F, East Tower, Phil. Stock Exchange Centre, Pasig City
  2. Binondo Branch: 4th Flr. Unit 448 Wellington Bldg. 624 Quintin Paredes St. Plaza San Lorenzo Ruiz Binondo Manila

Step 8: Deposit an initial investment for as low as Php 5,000.00

IMPORTANT:

  1. Send your proof of initial fund to initialfund@philstocks.ph with the subject “Initial Fund: [Full Name],” On the body of the email, kindly indicate the date when you submitted your documents. Or, you may also send your proof of transaction to us together with your documents.
  2. Your Initial fund will reflect on your portfolio once your account has been activated.
  3. Crediting your initial fund varies depending on your chosen mode of payment.

Step 9: Initial log-in and Trading Pin set-up

When you’re done with the requirements, and already funded your account to activate it, expect an email confirmation within 3-5 business days. Once your application for Philstocks online trading account has been verified and approved, they will ask you to log-in to www.philstocks.ph and input your assigned Username and Password. You will now set-up your trading PIN and Security Questions upon initial log-in. Please ensure you complete this step to be able to place your orders and requests.

You’re good to go! You can now enjoy stock investing thru their desktop version and mobile application that is made available on the App Store and Google Play.
